INSTRUCTOR: Karen Waddell
CFM UMASS & BROWN UNIVERSITY CERTIFIED MBSR TEACHER / Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Trained
The ‘mindfulness' in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction will teach you how to
pay attention in a way that will bring you much more ease and resilience in an
ever-changing, 24/7 world. Come engage with your life as if it really
mattered in this transformative course for effective stress relief. With practice
you‘ll come to a brand new perspective on how you are with everything in your
life. The qualities of mindfulness offer the perfect compliment and support to ride out these particularly uncertain times with Covid-19.
If you are like me and are looking to:
-
Approach life with more composure, energy, understanding and enthusiasm.
-
Develop the ability to cope more effectively with both short-term and long-term stressful situations.
-
Enhance your ability to manage and reduce pain levels in many instances.
-
Improve your focus, resilience and capacity to recover more quickly from challenging events.

The practice of mindfulness has been shown to exert a powerful influence on one’s health, mental balance and happiness. Developed and inspired by the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D (author of Full Catastrophe Living), MBSR offers practical, scientifically supported teachings, to reduce stress, facilitate relaxation, and promote physical health and emotional well-being.
This course is for those new to mindfulness awareness, as well as for those who have
studied with me before as a way to refresh your practice. Mindfulness training is intended for individuals who are generally healthy, and who would like to learn to manage their stress more skilfully.

TEACHER'S NOTE
Currently, there are a wide-range of mindfulness-based programs that have
developed out of the basic structure and format of MBSR. I applaud these
adaptations and experiments, as there are many doors into ‘mindfulness’. I teach
the original MBSR course as developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. My teaching adheres to a high level of structure and standards, without such adherence, the veracity of MBSR would be diminished and the scientific results increasingly suspect. You will learn how this secular, scientific, evidence-based practice has become an accepted part of mainstream medicine, and discover how it can positively affect the quality of your everyday life

TESTAMONIAL
" From the moment I met Karen I felt welcome and cared for. She is incredibly warm and compassionate. I have a deep appreciation for Karen’s ability to empathize with others; it made the space feel safe even before I was familiar with my peers. The structure of the course had a good flow and I always felt like I was building upon what we had previously learned the week before. I often left the classes feeling like my appreciation for mindfulness had grown and I personally felt rejuvenated. I enjoyed that Karen would incorporate what she was currently learning as well in her own life, it felt like the right amount of spontaneity to make the course fresh. This is the only MBSR course I have taken but I truly believe that Karen’s passion, kindness and fun energy make it a unique MBSR experience that I am very grateful for."
